WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — A pair of brothers and two other men have been accused of stealing nearly 1,200 laptops bound for public school students in New Jersey. Investigators say the brothers drove a truck last year to pick up a shipment of Apple laptops worth $1 million. Authorities say Anton Saljanin later reported the truck stolen and said he found it in Connecticut with the laptops missing.

Obama administration proposes to ban health discrimination against transgender individuals

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration proposed Thursday to ban discrimination against transgender people throughout the health care system, expanding anti-bias protections in the president's health overhaul. The new policy comes at a time when social attitudes about sexuality and gender are undergoing a major shift. The Supreme Court recognized a constitutional right for same-sex couples to marry, and the gender transition of Olympian Bruce Jenner from male to female — Caitlyn — has brought new awareness about a group of people often ostracized by society.

Government trustees say groundwater contamination upriver part of PCB damage to Hudson River

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Government trustees assessing harm to the Hudson River from long-term PCB releases highlighted concerns over groundwater contamination in three upriver towns as the massive dredging project nears its end. Groundwater standards for PCBs have been exceeded in Fort Edward and Hudson Falls for more than two decades, and levels in Stillwater have exceeded state standards since at least 2008. The contaminated sources are not being used for drinking water, the trustees said.

Production of renowned Ovation guitars to resume at Connecticut factory that closed last year

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut factory that produced Ovation guitars for nearly a half century before closing last year will be making the renowned instruments once again, thanks to factory employees' efforts. Darren Wallace was among a few workers who were retained by Ovation. He kept up part of the plant on his own time with the hope it would reopen someday. Fender sold Ovation in December to Drum Workshop of Oxnard, California.
