Fluor cuts outlook on contract delays tied to falling oil and metals prices; stock slides

NEW YORK (AP) — Shares of Fluor Corp. skidded Friday after the engineering and construction company slashed its annual profit forecast, saying it isn't getting as many contracts because of the falling price of oil and metals. The company's second-quarter net income and revenue both fell short of Wall Street estimates. Fluor reported smaller profits for its industrial and infrastructure business, which serves industries including mining and transportation and manufacturing, and for its power business, which serves power companies.

New York village makes ransom payments to keep computers running after cyberattack

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A village in central New York made ransom payments of $300 and $500 last year to keep its computers running after two official-looking emails released malware throughout its system, state auditors said. "The payroll, village accounting systems, they were all locked up," Mayor Terry Leonard said.

US oil and natural gas rig count declines by 2 to 874

HOUSTON (AP) — Oilfield services company Baker Hughes Inc. says the number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. declined by two this week to 874. Among major oil- and gas-producing states, New Mexico gained three rigs, Louisiana gained two and North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Wyoming each gained one.

Energy stocks slumped after two big oil companies reported earnings that fell short of analysts' expectations. KEEPING SCORE: The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell one point, or less than 0.1 percent, to 2,107 as of 2:15 p.m. Eastern.
