SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — They boost their teams from the sidelines and promote them by appearing in calendars and at fan events, but some sports cheerleaders say they are still not considered team employees and are paid what amounts to less than minimum wage. The bill approved by the state Senate on Monday and sent to the governor for his signature would require that cheerleaders be paid at least minimum wage and overtime and sick leave if they work for professional sports teams based in California.

Union-represented GE workers ratify 4-year pacts with wage increases, pension improvements

(AP) — Union workers at General Electric Co. have ratified contracts that increase compensation by $15,500 over four years, hold the line on health care contributions next year, provide pension improvements and make other changes. GE Vice President Greg Capito said the agreements provide good wages and benefits, "while addressing current and projected competitive realities."

BOSTON (AP) — One of the most remarkable work stoppages in U.S. labor history will soon be the subject of a new documentary film. Director Jay Childs says "Food Fight: Inside the Battle for Market Basket" should be released in the fall. The film's first trailer was recently posted online. The film is about the yearslong power struggle between cousins Arthur T. Demoulas and Arthur S. Demoulas that came to a head last summer when thousands of workers at the Tewksbury, Massachusetts-based supermarket chain walked off the job. They wanted their beloved boss Arthur T. back after he lost control of the board to Arthur S.

US stocks gain as Greece appears to be willing to negotiate a deal; Chubb surges on Ace deal

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are moving higher as investors hope Greece can find a way to remain in the eurozone. Hopes were raised after Greece's government appeared to soften its stance toward its creditors. However, European officials ruled out any deal before a Greek referendum this weekend. Chubb Corp. soared 29 percent after the insurance company agreed to be acquired by Ace for about $28 billion.
