NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are closing with slight gains, just enough to push the market further into record territory. Semiconductor stocks rose Wednesday after Analog Devices reported strong earnings. Analog Devices rose 6 percent, the most in the Standard & Poor's 500 index. The S&P 500 rose five points, or 0.3 percent, to 2,072.

Thanksgiving travelers thankful for cheaper gas, some scramble to beat a path around storms

Some holiday travelers are giving thanks for the cheapest gas prices in years. But that's cold comfort to those beating a path through stormy weather, including a nor'easter affecting a wide swath of the East Coast. ___ IT'S ALL ABOUT AUNT BO No nor'easter was going to keep the Beardslees from making the 600-mile pilgrimage from home in Charlotte, North Carolina, to a family gathering in Chatham, New Jersey — especially given that Bill Beardslee's 94-year-old great-aunt Bo was going to be there.

Company to give $300,000 in back wages to disabled workers paid less than minimum wage

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — An employment program agreed to give $300,000 in back wages to around 100 disabled workers for allegedly failing to pay overtime and the minimum wage, as part of a settlement announced Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Labor. Federal authorities said last year that the average wage for disabled workers at Training Thru Placement was $1.57 an hour, although one employee got 14 cents an hour. At the time, the company had authorization from the Department of Labor to pay disabled workers less than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour for work that included light assembling, sorting and packaging.

US agency threatens fines, legal action against air bag maker for balking at national recall

DETROIT (AP) — A dispute between U.S. safety regulators and air bag maker Takata Corp. escalated Wednesday when the government threatened fines and legal action unless the company admits that driver's air bag inflators are defective and agrees to a nationwide recall. The company's air bags have been blamed for at least five deaths and multiple injuries worldwide. They can inflate with too much force, blowing apart a mental canister and spewing shrapnel.
