NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A computer glitch at the company that operates most of the state's red-light cameras has led to about 17,000 tickets being voided, the judiciary office said Thursday. The computer problems occurred between May 28 and June 30 and resulted in motorists not receiving notices of violations that had been committed before then and were being processed. Under state law, if a ticket hasn't been served within 90 days it must be dismissed, Comfort said.

NY judge calls Argentina payment plan illegal, unacceptable, but won't hold nation in contempt

NEW YORK (AP) — A federal judge in Manhattan on Thursday said Argentina's plans to evade his orders by failing to make required payments to U.S. bondholders is illegal and cannot be carried out, but he stopped short of finding the South American nation in contempt of court. However, he rejected requests by lawyers for U.S. hedge funds to make a contempt finding, saying he wanted everyone to concentrate on an eventual settlement.

US Census study finds that rich got richer, poor poorer between 2000 and 2011

NEW YORK (AP) — A report from the Census Bureau is the latest evidence that the rich are getting richer while the poor get poorer. But because wealth dropped for the majority of Americans, the median household net worth for the country overall declined about 7 percent to $68,828. A rebound in the stock market and rising home values after the housing bust helped richer Americans regain their wealth since the recession, which began in December 2007 and ended in June 2009.
