Agency: Monsanto to pay $600K in fines for not reporting chemical releases at Idaho plant

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Monsanto Co. has agreed to pay $600,000 in fines for not reporting hundreds of uncontrolled releases of toxic chemicals at its eastern Idaho phosphate plant. Federal officials say the chemicals released are hazardous and can pose serious health risks. Monsanto in a statement noted there were no allegations that the releases exceeded state of federal standards, or that they contributed to any known health concerns in the Soda Springs area.

Despite low oil prices, recent mishaps, DOE advisory council pushes for Arctic drilling

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. should immediately begin a push to exploit its enormous trove of oil in the Arctic waters off of Alaska, or risk a renewed reliance on imported oil in the future, an Energy Department advisory council says in a study to be released Friday. In order for the U.S. to keep domestic production high and imports low, oil companies should start probing the Artic now because it takes 10 to 30 years of preparation and drilling to bring oil to market, according to a draft of the study's executive summary obtained by the Associated Press.

Suzanne Somers returns to Las Vegas with musical nightclub act starting in May

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Television personality Suzanne Somers is bringing a nightclub act to Las Vegas starting in May. It is the same property Somers performed at in the 1980s when it was known as the Las Vegas Hilton. Tickets start at $65 plus taxes and fees for the 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday performances through May 16.

Agile Therapeutics reports 4th-quarter loss but tops expectations

PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) _ Agile Therapeutics Inc. (AGRX) on Thursday reported a loss of $6.8 million in its fourth quarter. The Princeton, New Jersey-based company said it had a loss of 37 cents per share. The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 40 cents per share.
