LONDON (AP) — SABMiller met with investors Friday to underscore its strength as an independent company, as the world's second-biggest brewer seeks to head off a takeover by larger rival Anheuser-Busch InBev. "We are continuing to remove duplication across markets, bringing specialist expertise in areas like procurement under one roof, and standardizing common processes," CEO Alan Clark said in a statement. "It results in our markets being freed up to concentrate on what they do best — growing revenue with local consumers and customers."

PARIS (AP) — Air France is resuming negotiations with pilots' unions over hotly contested job cuts, and Paris garbage collectors have ended a smelly strike, in promising developments after a week of high labor tensions. Unions have resisted job cuts and calls to work longer hours for the same pay.

Malaysia's central bank says debt-laden fund broke foreign exchange rules, must return $1.8B

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysia's central bank said Friday a debt-laden state investment fund violated foreign exchange rules and must repatriate $1.83 billion it used abroad. No details were given on when the investments were made. The central bank's move is a new blow to the fund, which was set up by Prime Minister Najib Razak in 2009 to develop new industries, but faces accusations of graft and mismanagement after it accumulated at least 42 billion ringgit ($10 billion) in debt.
