LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada judge has decided a wrongful termination case against Macau-based Sands China Ltd. and Sands Chairman Sheldon Adelson can stay in Nevada largely because of the influence Adelson wielded over the company, often from several thousand miles away. "Adelson and (Las Vegas Sands') control over (Sands China) goes far beyond the ordinary relationship of parent and subsidiary," Gonzalez wrote. Ultimately, Adelson made all the decisions, big and little, when it came to Sands China, she said.

SEATTLE (AP) — An official with Washington state's Department of Natural Resources says Seattle activists protesting Shell's plans to drill for oil in the Arctic did some environmental damage to a popular dive park. The barge known as "The People's Platform" was parked over the dive park near Seacrest Park. Department of Natural Resources spokesman Joe Smillie says divers found cement blocks, cables and chains used to anchor the barge.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A 10-square-mile oil slick off the coast of California is thinner than a coat of paint and it's becoming harder to skim from choppy waters, officials said Friday as more dead animals were discovered on the Santa Barbara coast. Federal regulators ordered Plains All American Pipeline to drain the pipe that leaked, test the metal in the damaged section of pipe, and complete a series of steps before it can ask to resume pumping oil through the pipe to inland refineries.
