PARSIPPANY, N.J. (AP) — Gov. Chris Christie is looking outside his administration for solutions to the state's budget woes. "If we don't do more and we don't do it now, we'll be forced to choose between funding what matters or a bloated, unaffordable entitlement system that we couldn't muster the will to fix once and for all," said Christie during a news conference in Parsippany.

General Motors' sales were up 9 percent compared with last July, while Hyundai's rose 1.5 percent. Of major automakers, only Honda and Volkswagen saw declines. It was the best July for the industry since 2006. New vehicle sales rose 9 percent to 1.4 million, according to Autodata Corp.

Solid gains for automakers and construction as US employers add 209,000 jobs in July

WASHINGTON (AP) — Automakers helped drive hiring in July. In a month when auto plants usually shut down to retool for next year's models, the sector added a solid 14,600 jobs, according to the government's employment report released Friday. That increase accounted for more than half the 28,000 manufacturing jobs added last month, the strongest such gain since November 2013.
