NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Defense Secretary Ash Carter will announce Friday that the Pentagon is funding a new venture to develop cutting-edge electronics and sensors that can flex and stretch and could be built into clothing or the skins of ships and aircraft. Under the plan, the Pentagon will provide $75 million and industry, academia and local government will contribute $96 million over five years to a newly created high-tech innovation institute.

Greece's economy grew by 0.9 percent in second quarter, faster than initially estimated

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greece's statistics agency says the country's economy grew slightly faster than earlier forecast in the second quarter of the year. It said that, according to seasonally adjusted data, the economy grew by 1.6 percent compared with the same quarter last year. That is slightly higher than the initial estimate of 1.4 percent.

Regis posts loss of $2.6 million in fourth quarter

EDINA, Minn. (AP) _ Regis Corp. (RGS) on Friday reported a loss of $2.6 million in its fiscal fourth quarter. The Edina, Minnesota-based company said it had a loss of 5 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and to account for discontinued operations, came to 1 cent per share. The owner of hair salon chains Supercuts and MasterCuts posted revenue of $462.9 million in the period.

Big Lots tops 2Q profit and revenue expectations

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ Big Lots Inc. (BIG) on Friday reported fiscal second-quarter profit of $17.6 million. The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 12 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 34 cents per share. The discount retailer posted revenue of $1.21 billion in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Ten analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.19 billion.
