Detroit, under fire for shutting off water to the poor, says it will take 15-day break

DETROIT (AP) — Detroit suspended its aggressive policy of cutting off water to customers with unpaid bills on Monday, the latest response to a controversy that has prompted large protests and caught the attention of the judge overseeing the city's bankruptcy. The issue gained national attention last month after activists appealed to the United Nations for assistance. About 2,000 people protested in Detroit last week during a national convention of liberal Democrats.

NEW YORK (AP) — Yahoo says it will buy Flurry Inc., which helps other companies make apps and design mobile ad campaigns. Yahoo did not disclose how much it will pay for the San Francisco company, which also helps companies analyze the effectiveness of their advertising. Flurry says its analytics are used by 170,000 developers. Yahoo says the acquisition will give Flurry the resources it needs to work with more developers. Yahoo Inc. says most of its users are visiting on mobile devices, and its mobile display and search revenue has more than doubled over the last year.

Chipotle's sales surge as higher prices fail to deter customers

DENVER (AP) — People keep flocking to Chipotle despite the chain's recent price hikes. The Denver-based company said Monday that sales at established locations rose 17.3 percent in its second quarter. That's the second highest increase recorded by the company since it went public in 2006. Chipotle said the sales surge was driven by higher customer traffic and to a lesser extent by national price hikes that were recently put in place. The company, which has about 1,700 restaurants, said it now expects sales at established locations to rise in the "mid-teens" for the full year. Previously, it had forecast an increase in the "high single digits," excluding the impact of price hikes.
