DETROIT (AP) — A state board that examined a preliminary review of Wayne County's finances said Wednesday the entity is operating under probable financial stress. "While county officials have taken some important steps in an effort to remedy the current crisis, the county continues to face significant financial difficulties that must be addressed now," state Treasurer Nick Khouri said.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. government is investigating possible collusion among major airlines to limit available seats, which keeps airfares high, according to a document obtained by The Associated Press. A letter received Tuesday by major U.S. carriers demands copies of all communications the airlines had with each other, Wall Street analysts and major shareholders about their plans for passenger-carrying capacity, or "the undesirability of your company or any other airline increasing capacity."

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The FBI is working with police to catch vandals behind nearly a dozen fiber-optic cable cuts in Northern California in the past year. FBI spokesman Greg Wuthrich says the FBI has known about the separate vandalism incidents and became involved last month because cable cuts in one location can affect businesses and customers in other cities and counties, requiring coordination.

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — The latest news on Greece's financial woes (all times local): ___ 3 a.m. President Barack Obama and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi are discussing ways to keep Greece in the eurozone. The two leaders spoke by phone on Wednesday. The White House says Obama and Renzi agreed it's important to help Greece pursue reforms and financing that will create growth and debt sustainability while staying in the currency union. The leaders also discussed how they're monitoring broader financial markets amid the crisis in Greece.
