BERLIN (AP) — A closely-watched survey shows German consumers remain optimistic as their economic expectations and willingness to make purchases have been bolstered by robust domestic demand and low inflation rates. The survey of 2,000 consumers showed economic expectations rising, indicating that the protracted negotiations between Greece and its creditors to determine whether Athens will get more financial aid "still do not seem to have a lasting impact on consumers."

TOKYO (AP) — A nuclear power plant in southern Japan has obtained all necessary permits to restart its two reactors, planned as early as late July. The plant's safety program includes emergency response plans in case of fire, flooding or other natural disasters, or a serious accident. The program's approval was the last step of the authority's three-part screening process that the utility needed to pass.

BEIJING (AP) — A court in eastern China fined a manufacturer of weed killer 75 million yuan ($12 million) and imprisoned employees of the company and its contractors for discharging wastewater that severely polluted streams. Rapid economic growth and lax enforcement of regulations has caused severe environmental damage throughout China. Beijing has promised to strictly enforce environmental laws and severely punish polluters in response to rising demands from citizens that air, water and soil be cleaned up.

KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani authorities on Wednesday detained the owner of a software company accused of running a global network in selling fake degrees, officials said. The police are investigating the company and its owner, Shoaib Sheikh, on charges of marketing online degrees from nonexistent schools and universities.
