First boom, then bust: Investors once keen on emerging market darlings are now in full flight

NEW YORK (AP) — If you think investors in U.S. stocks have had it rough, consider the hapless folks who followed Wall Street's advice to buy emerging market stocks. After the financial crisis, plowing money into emerging markets seemed like a sure bet. China was gobbling up raw materials from Brazil, Indonesia and Russia, and their stock markets were soaring. Wall Street cranked up its marketing machine, creating 246 funds to ride the boom.

Jeep recalling 206,668 Cherokee SUVs globally for defective windshield wipers

DETROIT (AP) — Fiat Chrysler is recalling 206,668 Jeep Cherokee SUVs because the windshield wipers can stop working unexpectedly. Cherokees from the 2014 model year are affected. There are 158,671 in the U.S., 18,366 in Canada and 3,582 in Mexico. The rest were sold outside North America. Fiat Chrysler says static buildup may occur if the wipers are used when it's dry. Static buildup can affect the module that powers the wipers and potentially disable them.

As Illinois' budget fight drags on, governor picks a new shutdown target: the state museum

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The skeleton of a massive mastodon, thousands of Native American artifacts and a giant shark could be the next casualties in an increasingly ugly fight over Illinois' state budget that has dragged on for months with no sign of ending. Now Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner is targeting the 138-year-old museum and four satellite sites for closure, the latest in a series of cuts the former businessman says are needed to manage Illinois' finances as he battles with Democrats who run the Legislature. The move is also designed to put pressure on lawmakers by ensuring more voters feel the impact of having no state budget.
