BRUSSELS (AP) — Spain says that a new agreement to connect its energy networks with Portugal and France is a major step toward breaking Europe's dependence on Russian gas supplies. He said the MIDCAT project linking gas infrastructure through Spain's northeast Catalonia region to southern France would help ensure that "Europe reduces its dependence on Russian gas."

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A consumer survey shows the popularity of the iPhone 6 has driven Apple's market share in China to its highest ever while Samsung has continued to lose ground. That was a record for Apple in the world's largest smartphone market, but not enough to catch up Chinese maker Xiaomi, which claimed 27.6 percent.

German factory orders show unexpectedly large fall in January, led by lower eurozone demand

BERLIN (AP) — German factory orders, a key indicator for Europe's biggest economy, dropped much further than expected in January, led by a big drop in demand from other eurozone countries. The fall was led by a 9 percent drop in orders from elsewhere in the 19-nation eurozone, while domestic orders fell 2.5 percent and demand from other nations slipped 2.2 percent.
