14 workers at compounding pharmacy charged in meningitis outbreak that killed 64, sickened 750

BOSTON (AP) — Federal prosecutors have charged 14 people in a 2012 meningitis outbreak that killed 64 people nationwide. Authorities say it's the biggest criminal case ever brought in the U.S. over contaminated medicine. According to an indictment unsealed Wednesday, mold and bacteria were in the air and on workers' gloved fingertips. Pharmacists are accused of failing to test drugs for purity before sending them to hospitals and pain clinics.

Asian stock markets boosted by Fed vow to be "patient" in raising interest rates

Asian stock markets powered higher Thursday, sweeping aside worries about a flagging global economy after the U.S. Federal Reserve said it would remain "patient" in its approach to raising interest rates. FED SPEAK: The world's most powerful central bank is edging closer to raising interest rates from record lows given a strengthening U.S. economy. But it will be "patient" in deciding when to do so. That was the message sent Wednesday as the Fed ended a meeting amid heightened expectation about a forthcoming rate increase. At a news conference, Chair Janet Yellen said she foresaw no rate hike in the first quarter of 2015.

Seth Rogen on how Kim Jong Un became the target of 'The Interview'

NEW YORK (AP) — A few weeks ago, when a freshly stoned Seth Rogen sat down for a lunch interview about "The Interview," the likelihood of trouble seemed remote. Unfortunately, Rogen's chuckling hypothetical has come to pass. After a devastating hacking attack on Sony Pictures and threats of terrorist attacks when "The Interview" was set to open in theaters on Christmas Day, Sony canceled the release of Rogen's film on Wednesday. The real-world geopolitics that initially served as fodder for parody in "The Interview" have upended one of Hollywood's biggest holiday releases.

Circus disputes federal citation for accident that injured 8 hair-hanging acrobats

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has contested a citation it received from federal regulators for an accident that sent eight hair-hanging acrobats plummeting to the ground during a live performance, severely injuring most of them. "We want to make sure that something like this never happens again," he said, adding that while one of the injured acrobats has returned to the circus, the others had not.
