ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Parliament has approved draft legislation that would give distressed Greeks more than eight years to settle unpaid taxes imposed under the country's austerity measures. Despite a steep rise in unemployment and extensive wage cuts, Greeks have been hammered with additional taxes, levied under bailout agreements between the country and rescue lenders from the eurozone and the International Monetary Fund.

Italy's high court acquits fashion designers Dolce&Gabbana in tax evasion case

MILAN (AP) — Italy's highest court acquitted Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana of tax evasion Friday in a case that created such public acrimony that the designers closed their Milan stores in protest for several days last year. "We have always been honest and we are extremely proud of this recognition by the Italian Court of Justice. Viva l'Italia," Dolce and Gabbana said in a statement.

US rig count up 9 in latest week to 1,927

HOUSTON (AP) — Oilfield services company Baker Hughes Inc. says the number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. rose by nine this week to 1,927. Of the major oil- and gas-producing states, Texas gained eight rigs, New Mexico increased five, West Virginia was up three, while Arkansas, California and Ohio gained two apiece. Alaska was up one.

Canadian union says it has lost bid to make Ford engines to Mexico

DETROIT (AP) — The Canadian auto workers union says Canada has lost to Mexico in a bid to build engines for Ford Motor Co. But on Friday, the union said Canada's federal and provincial governments were unable to reach an agreement with Ford on incentives for the new work. Ford wouldn't comment on the decision.
