Tunisia's outgoing prime minister backs broad coalition government to implement reforms

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — Tunisia's next government should be a broad as possible coalition so that it has the necessary support to implement difficult economic reforms, the outgoing prime minister said Friday in an implicit backing of an Islamist-secular alliance. While the moderate Islamist Ennahda Party came in second, many Nida Tunis officials have characterized any potential alliance as "unnatural."

Growers grateful for slightly higher Christmas tree prices but customers may see little change

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Christmas trees likely will cost a little more this year, and growers like John Tillman say it's about time. Six years of decreased demand and low prices put many growers out of business. Those who withstood the downturn are relieved they survived. "I'm awful proud to still be in the Christmas tree business," said Tillman, who ships up to 20,000 trees each fall from nine fields south of Olympia, Washington. "We lost a lot of farmers who didn't make it through."

BOSTON (AP) — The number of passenger trips on the MBTA topped the 37 million mark last month for the first time in the transit agency's history. The commuter rail had a 1.6 percent increase year-over-year, heavy rail had a 5.6 percent increase, while boat ridership jumped nearly 8 percent. Bus trips were down almost 9 percent.

Australia reputation as a leader on fighting climate change tarnished ahead of Lima summit

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who rose to power in large part by opposing a tax on greenhouse gas emissions, is finding his country isolated like never before on climate change as the U.S., China and other nations signal new momentum for action. Next week, attention turns to the next round of international climate change negotiations in Lima, Peru. For a nation of just 23 million, Australia has played a significant role in past talks, but this time it's unclear what kind of role its delegation, led by Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, will play.
