DALLAS (AP) — Nelson Bunker Hunt, a Texas oilman who once tried to corner the silver market with his brothers only to see the move end in financial disaster, has died. Hunt was among the world's wealthiest men. His father was legendary Texas oilman H.L. Hunt. He built on his father's oil and gas holdings, finding a rich Libyan oil field only to have it nationalized later by Moammar Gadhafi. He owned millions of acres of farm and ranch land in Australia, race horses and an ancient coin collection.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A Colorado man is set to plead guilty to killing a small-town Montana high school teacher in a slaying that shone a harsh light on the darker side of the Northern Plains' oil boom. Spell is due to appear Wednesday before state District Judge Richard Simonton in Sidney, a town of 6,200 near the North Dakota border.

Defense wants Colorado theater shooting trial postponed to review second sanity evaluation

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) — Defense attorneys are asking a judge to push back the trial for the man charged in the Colorado movie theater shooting so they can have more time to review a doctor's sanity evaluation that included 22 hours of interviews. Holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to killing 12 people and injuring 70 in the July 2012 attack on a Denver-area theater. The trial was set for Dec. 8.

Third Point says has taken large stake in Amgen, urges biotech company to consider breakup

A hedge fund run by a famed investor said Tuesday it has taken a large stake in Amgen and now wants the biotech drugmaker to consider splitting up into two. In response, Amgen said that its board and management are continually assessing the company's business. Third Point said Amgen Inc., which makes a range of drugs for arthritis, anemia and other diseases, is not given enough credit for its existing drugs or the potential of its pipeline. It believes that the stock can reach $218 by the end of 2016 — up 51 percent from Tuesday's close — if Amgen focused on research and development and trimmed expenses. Should the company pursue its suggestion to breaking up into two companies, Third Point said it believes that the total value would be nearly $249 per share.
