In global attack on corporate tax havens, leading economies move toward crackdown

PARIS (AP) — Leading world economies are close to adopting sweeping changes to international tax rules that could end tax-dodging by powerful multinationals. The OECD says the plan could bring $100 billion to $240 billion into government budgets. It's the result of two years of negotiations among dozens of governments, companies and non-governmental groups. Finance ministers from leading world economies will discuss the plan in Peru on Thursday, and their leaders are expected to finalize it at a G-20 summit next month in Turkey.

This year's awards come during events commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Accords on Bosnia that were negotiated in the southwest Ohio city. The literary awards began in 2006 in a tribute to the accords.

The United States and 11 other Pacific Rim countries have agreed to an ambitious and controversial trade pact that cuts trade barriers, sets labor and environmental standards and protects multinational corporations' intellectual property. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe welcomed the basic agreement as "a far-sighted policy for all participating countries that share the values and try to build a free and fair economic zone."

Greek government to submit draft 2016 budget to parliament as eurozone finance ministers meet

LUXEMBOURG (AP) — Greece's European creditors voiced hope Monday that the country's newly elected government will deliver on promises to overhaul its economy, which would pave the way to the release of billions of bailout cash and potential help on debt repayments. The budget is set to reveal a series of reforms required under the country's new three-year, 86 billion-euro ($96 billion) international bailout. Without delivering its side of the bailout bargain agreed in July, Greece would not be able to tap the bailout funds and once again face the prospect of a looming bankruptcy and exit from the euro.
