FLINT, Mich. (AP) — An attorney representing the family of a 77-year-old Flint-area woman killed when her 2005 Toyota Camry slammed into a tree after alleged sudden acceleration confirms that a deal has been reached in a lawsuit against the carmaker. Bailey declined to discuss details of the settlement which will be formally read into the record April 25 in Genesee County Circuit Court. Bailey says he expects details of the deal to be sealed by the court.

PepsiCo quarterly profit beats expectations on stronger snack sales, cost cuts, price hikes

NEW YORK (AP) — PepsiCo reported a stronger-than-expected quarterly profit as the company sold more snacks around the world and hiked prices, including on its drinks. Coca-Cola also reported flat volume in the North America market earlier this week. Both companies have been offsetting ongoing declines in their flagship soda businesses by relying more heavily on other beverages, such as sports drinks, juices and bottled waters.

NEW YORK (AP) — Wal-Mart is delving deeper into financial services at its stores and shaking up the money transfer business. Shares of money-transfer companies MoneyGram and Western Union slid Thursday. The service, which will be available starting April 24, allows its customers to transfer up to $900 to and from more than 4,000 Wal-Mart stores in the U.S.

Bullock proposes $45 million in grants to ease Bakken strains; bonds could be sticking point

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Gov. Steve Bullock proposed a $45 million grant program Thursday to ease strains on water and sewer systems in eastern Montana towns that have struggled to keep pace with the demands of the fast-growing Bakken oil patch. The Democratic governor last year vetoed a broader, Republican-sponsored measure that would have set aside money from mineral revenues to pay for water, sewer and road projects in the Bakken.
