NEW YORK (AP) — Shares of some top autos companies were mixed at the close of trading: Ford Motor Co. fell $.07 or .4 percent, to $17.36. General Motors Co. rose $.17 or .5 percent, to $34.57. Honda Motor Co. fell $.04 or .1 percent, to $34.08. Toyota Motor Corp. fell $.26 or .2 percent, to $116.95.

Mexico environment official says mining company lied about chemical spill into rivers

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico's top environmental official said Tuesday that a mining company lied about a spill of millions of gallons of acids and heavy metals that contaminated two rivers and a dam downstream. "At the start, they told us it was excessive rain" that caused the containment pond to overflow, Guerra Abud said. "That was totally false," he said, saying there were no rains on that scale.

FDA approves new oral drug to treat patients with form of rare Gaucher's disease

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new capsule-based drug to treat Gaucher's disease. Cerdelga is from Genzyme, the specialty drugmaker that introduced the first drug for Gaucher's disease 20 years ago. The oral treatment could serve as an alternative to Genzyme's best-selling drug Cerezyme, which is given intravenously.

Car service startup Uber hires former Obama campaign manager David Plouffe

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's former campaign manager and White House senior adviser David Plouffe is joining car service startup Uber as it seeks to expand in cities worldwide. "Uber has been in a campaign but hasn't been running one. That is changing now," Uber CEO Travis Kalanick said in a blog post announcing Plouffe's hiring.
