Scottish independence leader Alex Salmond announces his resignation as first minister

2 hours, 17 minutes ago

EDINBURGH, Scotland (AP) — Scotland's pro-independence leader Alex Salmond resigned as first minister and leader of his political party Friday, hours after Scots voted to remain in the United Kingdom. "For Scotland the campaign is not over and the dream will never die," he said. Salmond's impassioned plea to launch a new nation fell short, with Scots choosing instead the security of remaining in union with England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The percentages of poor in the other five states in the region were: 8.7 percent in New Hampshire; 10.7 percent in Connecticut; 11.9 percent in Massachusetts; 12.3 percent in Vermont and 14 percent in Maine. The poverty rates were still below the national figure of 15.8 percent.

Tracee Ellis Ross stars in 'black-ish,' a new ABC comedy whose color lines are blurred

2 hours, 27 minutes ago

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Tracee Ellis Ross delivers perhaps the funniest line you'll hear on a sitcom this fall. In this upscale African-American family, Dr. Rainbow Johnson also happens to be biracial. This occasionally spurs Andre, her hubby, who's forever fretting about the family's black cred, to question whether she is certifiably "black."
