As it falls to its weakest since 2003, euro gets closer to parity with dollar

LONDON (AP) — The euro could soon be doing something it's only done a couple of times in its 16-year existence — trading 1-to-1 with the dollar. The European single currency has been on the slide since May, when it traded as high as $1.40, while the dollar has been rising across a range of currencies. On Friday, the euro bought $1.0850, the lowest since 2003.

Flint plans to adjust bus routes amid grocery store closings to ease access to fresh food

FLINT, Mich. (AP) — Public transit officials in Flint plan to adjust bus routes to ensure that residents have easier access to fresh food following the planned shutdown of some big grocery stores in the area. Edgar Benning, general manager and CEO of transportation authority, said officials may add routes to a Wal-Mart and other Flint-area grocery stores.

Apple will replace AT&T in the Dow Jones industrial average after close of trading March 18

NEW YORK (AP) — In the Dow's elite club, Apple is in and AT&T is out. THE REASON S&P Dow Jones Indices, the index manager, said it's making the move in response to a planned stock split for Visa, another member of the 119-year old barometer of the stock market. After its four-to-one stock split, Visa will wind up with a lower price. S&P said that would reduce the weight of the information technology sector in the Dow, because Visa, a credit-card and payment-processing giant, counts as a tech stock. Adding Apple will help balance out this reduction.

Wisconsin Assembly passes right-to-work bill; heads to Gov. Walker for promised signature

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin lawmakers voted Friday to make their state the 25th to enact right-to-work legislation, pushing a fast-tracked bill through the Assembly after an overnight debate and sending it on to Gov. Scott Walker for his promised signature. The Assembly passed the bill 62-35 after a marathon session that included about 20 hours of debate. It was a straight party-line vote, with no Democrats backing the measure.
