Snow, slush and rain in the Northeast could slow millions of Thanksgiving travelers

2 hours, 56 minutes ago

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — Thanksgiving travelers scrambled to change their plans and beat a storm expected to bring snow, slush and rain to the crowded Washington-to-Boston corridor Wednesday on one of the busiest, most stressful days of the year. Higher elevation areas west of the Interstate 95 corridor could see as much as 6 to 12 inches before the nor'easter exits Wednesday night, meteorologist Andrew Orrison said.

Fox struggling to find audience in new television season

2 hours, 56 minutes ago

NEW YORK (AP) — If Fox launches a comeback over the next couple of years, the network may very well look upon the week before Thanksgiving 2014 as its low point. The highest-ranked Fox show in Nielsen's weekly ratings was the "Batman" prequel "Gotham," the network's biggest success of the fall. Still, Nielsen said 45 other programs had a bigger audience than the 6.5 million people who watched "Gotham."

US stocks gains peter out, leaving indexes near breakeven but still near record highs

NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. stock market is ending the day pretty much it started, leaving indexes near record highs. Investors were weighing an upward revision in U.S. economic growth Tuesday against a drop in consumer confidence. Energy stocks fell 1.6 percent after the price of oil resumed its slide ahead an OPEC meeting on Thursday. Many expect the group won't be able to agree on production cuts.
