Thousands of plaintiffs remain after $3.2M paid for Chinese drywall damage to 7 houses

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — With a hearing scheduled to decide how much money thousands of people are owed for Chinese drywall damage to their homes, the manufacturer has made payments required to participate, including $3.2 million to seven homeowners in Virginia. "I never thought the Chinese would come to the table. This is a significant event," said Eric Bailey, one of those remaining plaintiffs. He sold his $240,000 house for $80,000 after learning fumes from chemicals in the drywall were causing his continual problems with electrical wiring and appliances.

US consumer spending up just 0.1 percent in February despite healthy income growth

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. consumers spent just slightly more in February even though their income rose by a healthy amount. But economists hope bigger paychecks will give spending a bigger boost in the coming months. Income grew a solid 0.4 percent in February, matching January's rise. With income growing faster than spending, the saving rate jumped to 5.8 percent of after-tax income — the highest level since December 2012.

Insurer UnitedHealth bulks up for prescription drug cost battle with $12.76B Catamaran deal

The nation's largest health insurer, UnitedHealth, will muscle up for its fight against rising prescription drug costs by spending more than $12 billion to buy pharmacy benefits manager Catamaran Corp. Rising costs from these drugs are expected to affect more patients as use of the treatments grows and coverage for them shrinks.

Judge rules again that Joe Paterno's estate can't sue NCAA, Penn State for breach of contract

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The family of the late Penn State football coach Joe Paterno can't sue the NCAA and the university for breach of contract for their actions in response to the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal, a Pennsylvania judge on Monday ruled for a second time. "Plaintiffs are not amending their complaint to include a new cause of action or even a new theory of an existing cause of action; rather they are attempting to resurrect a claim on which this court already dismissed," Leete wrote.
