Oil rises near $99 a barrel before Bernanke speaks

The price of oil rose to near $99 a barrel on Wednesday, driven by a report of falling U.S. stockpiles of crude and ahead of the conclusion of a meeting of the Federal Reserve. The American Petroleum Institute said late Tuesday that U.S. crude stocks fell by 4.3 million barrels last week, a much steeper draw than expected. The API report helped the Nymex contract reach a nine-month high.

Tens of thousands of Brazilians again flooded the streets of the country's biggest city to raise a collective cry against a longstanding lament _ people are weighed down by high taxes and high prices but get low-quality public services and a system of government infected with corruption. Mass protests have been mushrooming across Brazil since demonstrations called last week by a group angry over the high cost of a woeful public transport system and a recent 10-cent hike in bus and subway fares in Sao Paulo, Rio and elsewhere.
Tribal land buy-back program starting

The Interior Department says it is ready to start a program to help Native American tribes buy parcels of reservation land that have accumulated multiple owners. The purchases announced Tuesday are part of the settlement of the Cobell lawsuit over government mismanagement of Indian land royalties. Outgoing Interior deputy secretary David Hayes says purchase offers should begin at the end of the year and speed up in coming years.

It has been replaced, Chase said, by a weight on eldest son Prince Michael Jackson's shoulders. Daughter Paris Jackson cries and no longer wants parties for her birthday since her father hosted a private circus for her 11th birthday. Youngest son Blanket, who remains home-schooled, wears a T-shirt with his father's image every Friday, she said.
