US stocks move slightly higher, keeping indexes at record levels, following gains overseas

NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. stock market moved slightly higher in late-morning trading Monday, keeping major indexes at record levels. Renewed confidence that stimulus measures from global central banks will help spur economic growth is supporting demand for stocks. CONSUMER GOODS: The so-called consumer discretionary sector, which includes retailers such as Coach, Urban Outfitters and Gap, led gains for the stock market ahead of the holiday season. Coach rose 85 cents, or 2.3 percent, to $37.30 as analysts at Stifel reiterated their belief that the company was "doing the right things to reinvigorate the brand." The analysts believe that the stock's price could climb as high as $47.

Wal-Mart appoints former American Airlines Chairman and CEO Tom Horton to its board

NEW YORK (AP) — Wal-Mart named former American Airlines CEO and Chairman Tom Horton as a member of its board Monday. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has 15 other board members. The company is based in Bentonville, Arkansas, and it has more than 11,000 stores in 27 countries.

Grain mixed on the CBOT, cattle mixed and pork higher on the CME

CHICAGO (AP) — Grain futures were mixed Monday in early trading on the Chicago Board of Trade. Beef mixed and pork higher on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Feb live cattle was .10 cent higher at $1.7225 pound; Jan feeder cattle was .45 cent higher at 2.3680 a pound; Feb lean hogs lost 1.05 cents to $.9150 a pound.

Nike extends contract with US Olympic team through 2020 Tokyo Olympics

The swoosh and the rings will stick together through at least 2020. The U.S. Olympic Committee signed an extension to its sponsorship deal with Nike that will last through the Tokyo Games six years from now. Nike is one of the USOC's top-tier sponsors. No dollar figures were given for the latest extension announced Monday. These contracts, however, traditionally have been worth between $12 million and $15 million over four years.
