WASHINGTON (AP) — The head of the Federal Communications Commission says the agency will consider a petition to ban the Washington Redskins nickname from the public airwaves. A law professor has challenged the use of the name on broadcast television, saying it violates FCC rules against indecent content. Native American and other groups have demanded the name be changed, calling it a racial slur.

Judge rules in favor of government and against investors in court battle over profits

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge on Tuesday ruled against investors who are trying to collect billions of dollars in profits of government-chartered mortgage companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. "There can be no doubt" that the investors understood the risks involved in investments in closely regulated companies such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Lamberth wrote, and therefore have no reasonable expectation of profiting.

Holding Co. rose $.13 or .2 percent, to $56.66. Dominion Resources Inc. rose $.61 or .9 percent, to $69.09. Duke Energy Corp. rose $.58 or .8 percent, to $74.77.

NEW YORK (AP) — Shares of some top medical devices companies were mixed at the close of trading: Allergan fell $1.51 or .8 percent, to $178.19. Baxter International Inc. fell $.11 or .2 percent, to $71.77. Boston Scientific Corp. fell $.11 or .9 percent, to $11.81. Johnson & Johnson rose $.05 or percent, to $106.59.
