NEW YORK (AP) — Executives at Jordan-based Arab Bank should not be held responsible for a wave of suicide bombings in Israel in the early 2000s that left several Americans dead, a lawyer said Thursday in closing arguments at a U.S. civil trial. In more than a month of testimony, the jury had heard Arab Bank Chairman Sabih Al-Masri and other executives take the witness stand to deny allegations in a 2004 lawsuit filed by the American victims that the bank knowingly helped Hamas fund a "death and dismemberment benefit plan" for martyrs from the West Bank and Gaza. RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The future of the golf course under construction for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016 was unclear Wednesday after the city of Rio and the course developer — both defendants in a lawsuit — failed to agree to changes proposed by a Brazilian court. The defendants offered to alter three holes of the layout, which is behind schedule and facing tight deadlines. The public prosecutor, who alleges the city and the developer have violated environmental laws, asked the developer to yield a large parcel of land being earmarked for luxury apartments.
