OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway is buying the privately-owned auto dealership company Van Tuyl Group. Financial terms were not disclosed. Van Tuyl Group says it is the biggest privately owned auto dealership group in the U.S. It has 78 independently operated dealerships and more than 100 franchises in 10 states. The company will be renamed Berkshire Hathaway Automotive and be based in Dallas.

Global Payments posts 1Q profit, results top Wall Street forecasts

ATLANTA (AP) — Global Payments Inc. (GPN) on Thursday reported fiscal first-quarter profit of $75.4 million. The Atlanta-based company said it had profit of $1.10 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were $1.22 per share. The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.15 per share.

Applications for US jobless aid fall to 287K; fewest people receiving benefits in 8-plus years

WASHINGTON (AP) — The number of people seeking U.S. unemployment benefits dropped 8,000 last week to a seasonally adjusted 287,000, as the total number of Americans collecting benefits dropped to its lowest level in more than eight years. The steady decline in people applying for benefits began at the end of April.

Lawmakers grill France's Moscovici who vows to be impartial enforcer of EU deficit rules

BRUSSELS (AP) — European lawmakers on Thursday grilled the 28-nation bloc's incoming economy chief, Pierre Moscovici, because many fear he cannot be trusted to properly enforce rules limiting government deficits. "Moscovici is hardly credible," insisted German lawmaker Burkhard Balz. "He did not convince his own government to ensure compliance" with the EU rules capping deficits and demanding economic reforms, he said.
