SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A California state senator charged in a sweeping organized crime and public corruption case centered in San Francisco's Chinatown now also faces a racketeering charge. Also charged with racketeering was Raymond "Shrimp Boy" Chow. The grand jury called a Chinese-American association that Chow allegedly headed, the Ghee Kung Tong, a racketeering enterprise.

Quakes occur in 4 parts of Alaska; no reports of damage, but some wireless service affected

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Seismologists in Alaska say earthquakes have jolted four different parts of the state in the last 12 hours. An unrelated magnitude-4.3 earthquake was felt in Kodiak. No one reported feeling smaller, unrelated quakes in the Brooks Range region and in north-central Alaska. There are no immediate reports of damage.

Cellphone unlocking set to become legal again, but effect is limited

NEW YORK (AP) — Congress has passed a bill that makes it legal to "unlock" cellphones so the devices can —at least in some instances— be used on other carriers. The law passed Friday by the House of Representatives makes it legal to unlock phones for personal use at least until the Librarian's next round of rulemaking, next year. The measure was passed earlier by the Senate.

McDonald's faces legal grilling in Russia after inspection finds too many calories in burgers

MOSCOW (AP) — Nearly a quarter-century after McDonald's startled and delighted Soviets with their first taste of American fast-food culture, the company's now facing a suit that could ban it from selling some of its signature products. McDonald's did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
