Company to give $300,000 in back wages to disabled workers paid less than minimum wage

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island company will give $300,000 in back wages to more than 100 disabled workers and staff for failing to pay overtime and the minimum wage. The department says that it found that between June 2010 and January 2013, North Providence-based Training Thru Placement falsified documents, failed to pay employees for all the hours they worked and other violations.

Obama administration teams up with shopping center company on health insurance outreach

CHICAGO (AP) — The Obama administration will promote health insurance coverage at shopping malls starting on Black Friday and continuing through the busiest shopping days of the holiday season, officials announced Wednesday. They said more than 462,000 people selected a private insurance plan in the first week of 2015 enrollment through the online marketplace HealthCare.gov.

Nevada gambling revenue down 4 percent in October; Vegas Strip declines, Reno sees gains

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada gambling revenue was down for the third month in a row compared with a year ago. Casinos kept $914 million of all the wagers and bets made in October, 4 percent short from the same time a year ago, according to the latest statistics from the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Mike Lawton, the board's senior research analyst, said revenues have been "flat to down" for quite some time. Since January, gambling has been down a little less than one percent compared with the first 10 months in 2013, he said.
