SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea on Saturday proposed a joint investigation with the U.S. into the hacking attack against Sony Pictures Entertainment, warning of "serious" consequences if Washington rejects a probe that it believes will prove Pyongyang had nothing to do with the cyberattack.

North Korea proposes joint investigation with US over Sony hacking

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea has proposed a joint investigation with the U.S. into the hacking attack against Sony Pictures Entertainment. U.S. officials blame North Korea for the hacking, citing the tools used in the Sony attack and previous hacks linked to the North. The break-in resulted in the disclosure of tens of thousands of confidential Sony emails and business files, and escalated to terrorist threats that caused Sony to cancel the release of the movie "The Interview." The comedy is about a plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

A look at 3 of the largest coal ash spills in the US

The Obama administration on Friday set the first national standards for waste generated from coal burned for electricity, called coal ash, treating it more like household garbage rather than a hazardous material. The Obama announcement ended a six-year effort that began after a massive spill of the ash that contains toxins at a Tennessee power plant in 2008. Since then, the EPA has documented coal ash waste sites tainting hundreds of waterways and underground aquifers in numerous states with heavy metals and other toxic contaminants.

EPA issues rules for the 1st time on coal ash, yet environmental groups unhappy with them

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Six years ago, there was a massive spill of coal ash sludge in Tennessee. Three years later, tons of coal ash swept into Lake Michigan. Last February, there was another spill and gray sludge spewed into the Dan River in North Carolina. The EPA ruled that the ash can be treated like regular garbage, meaning regulating the stuff will be left up to states and watchful citizens.
