Medicines Co. reports 2nd-quarter loss, misses expectations

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (AP) _ The Medicines Co. (MDCO) on Wednesday reported a loss of $46.6 million in its second quarter. On a per-share basis, the Parsippany, New Jersey-based company said it had a loss of 71 cents. Losses, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 65 cents per share. The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 20 cents per share.

LONDON (AP) — This year's Venice Film Festival will include Kristen Stewart in a sci-fi romance, a war story with Idris Elba and a thriller starring Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson. Organizers announced a 21-strong competition lineup Wednesday that includes Drake Doremus' futuristic "Equals," with Stewart and Nicholas Hoult; Luca Guadagnino's "A Bigger Splash," with Swinton, Johnson and Ralph Fiennes; and Cary Fukunaga's African child-soldier story "Beasts of No Nation," starring Elba.

PG&E posts 2Q profit of $406 million, result tops expectations

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PCG) on Wednesday reported second-quarter earnings of $406 million. The San Francisco-based company said it had profit of 83 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 91 cents per share. The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 78 cents per share.
