Nearly 6 million laptop power cords that can overheat and start a fire are among this week's recalled consumer products. Others include potentially faulty helmets and bunk beds. Here's a more detailed view: LAPTOP POWER CORDS DETAILS: Power cords that came with HP and Compaq laptops and mini laptops. They were sold between September 2010 and June 2012 for about $500 to $1500. The cords are black and have an "LS-15" mark at the end.

Brazil's GDP contracts and sends economy into a recession

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazil's formerly high-flying economy, once the darling of emerging markets, has fallen into recession, according to government data released Friday, as a legion of newly minted middle class citizens tightened their belts and halted a credit-driven spending spree. Analysts said the economy also suffered because investors are holding off, waiting to see how the October presidential election changes the economic winds.

Rescuers locate 20 of at least 24 trapped in gold mine landslide in Nicaragua

MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) — Rescuers on Friday located 20 of at least 24 gold miners trapped by a landslide in northern Nicaragua, but were not immediately able to bring them to safety. Soloranzo told local Channel 8 that the 20 miners were located in a kind of cave inside the mine and have been able to communicate with rescue workers. They said thei didn't know the whereabouts of the other four.
