MEXICO CITY (AP) — The U.S. Embassy in Mexico issued a security message Friday warning U.S. citizens to avoid the Pacific resort of Acapulco because of violence and protests. The alert noted that "protests and violent incidents continue in Guerrero state in response to the disappearance of 43 students there."

US judge nixes plan to allow sports betting at New Jersey casinos, tracks; appeal on the way

A federal judge ruled Friday night that New Jersey cannot partially lift a prohibition on sports betting in an effort to boost its struggling horse racing and casino industries, a finding Gov. Chris Christie's administration intends to appeal. The state, locked in a legal battle with the NCAA and the four major U.S. professional sports leagues, has already filed a notice of appeal, Michael Drewniak, a spokesman for the Republican governor, said shortly after the judge's decision was announced.

California man pleads guilty to hacking conspiracy charge in New York malware case

NEW YORK (AP) — A California man has pleaded guilty in New York City for his role marketing malware that federal authorities say infected more than a half-million computers worldwide. U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara (buh-RAH'-ruh) says the 24-year-old Thousand Oaks, California, resident helped market and sell a remote access tool for the BlackShades malware. He says Johnston also provided technical assistance.
