ABC's Stephanopoulos signs long-term contract extension

1 hour, 56 minutes ago

NEW YORK (AP) — ABC News has signed George Stephanopoulos to a contract extension, the last member of its "Good Morning America" team to agree to a new deal. Roberts also recently signed a contract extension. "Good Morning America" has not been entirely successful in keeping together the team that toppled NBC's "Today" show: Sam Champion left for a job at The Weather Channel and Josh Elliott is now at NBC Sports. In recent months, the show replaced Champion with Ginger Zee and Elliott with Amy Robach, promoted Lara Spencer and added Michael Strahan as a contributor.

General Motors 1Q results worst since 2009 due to recall costs; CEO says sales holding up

2 hours, 1 minute ago

DETROIT (AP) — The cost of recalling nearly 7 million cars and trucks sank General Motors' first-quarter profit, but the company's CEO said the much-publicized recalls have yet to cut into sales. The Detroit automaker is facing government investigations and civil lawsuits over the small-car recall. On a conference call, CEO Mary Barra called the company's handling of the recall unacceptable but said that, so far, bad publicity has not had a "meaningful impact" on sales. She also said GM is offering employee discounts to owners of cars with the faulty ignition switches.

2 hours, 1 minute ago

MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (AP) — Uruguay is still writing the rules for its legal marijuana market, two weeks overdue now, and President Jose Mujica has asked that no details be released until the regulations are finally published on Friday or Monday. An official in the drug control office, speaking on condition of anonymity because the rules aren't final, says the law didn't include taxing pot sales, so authorities are developing fees to match highly taxed alcohol and cigarette sales. Another problem figuring out how to trace the plants from seed to smoke.
