GOP governors offer a glimpse of conservative policies that might be put into place nationally

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — One group of potential candidates for president probably won't be shuffling off to Iowa, New Hampshire or other early campaign spots in the new year. They'll be hunkered down in statehouses across the Midwest, pushing bills through their legislatures. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, Mike Pence of Indiana, Rick Snyder of Michigan and John Kasich of Ohio were all elected after Republicans began taking political control of the middle of the country back in 2010. Since then, they have offered a glimpse of what some conservative policies would look like if put into wider effect.

How the AP-Times Square Alliance poll on 2014 and the year ahead was conducted

The Associated Press-Times Square Alliance poll was conducted by GfK Public Affairs and Corporate Communications Dec. 12-14. It is based on online interviews of 1,017 adults who are members of GfK's nationally representative KnowledgePanel. The original sample was drawn from respondents recruited by phone or mail survey methods. GfK provides Internet access to participants who don't already have it. With a probability basis and coverage of people who otherwise couldn't access the Internet, online surveys using KnowledgePanel are nationally representative.

AP-Times Square poll: After mixed feelings about past year, most feel good about year to come

WASHINGTON (AP) — Americans are closing out 2014 on an optimistic note, according to a new Associated Press-Times Square Alliance poll. Nearly half predict that 2015 will be a better year for them than 2014 was, while only 1 in 10 think it will be worse. There's room for improvement: Americans give the year gone by a resounding 'meh.'
