At first U.S. stocks were driven lower by word that German manufacturing had slowed last month. The selling accelerated after a separate survey indicated U.S. manufacturing slowed as well.

NEW YORK (AP) — Shares of some top specialty retail companies were mixed at the close of trading: Autozone Inc. fell $1.65 or .3 percent, to $508.01. Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. fell $.89 or 1.4 percent, to $64.94. Best Buy fell $.97 or 2.9 percent, to $32.62. Home Depot Inc. fell $.72 or .8 percent, to $91.02.

NEW YORK (AP) — A look at New York Stock Exchange 10 most-active stocks at the close of trading: Advanced Micro Devices Inc. fell 1.8 percent to $3.35 with 32,812,600 shares traded. Bank of America Corp. fell 1.3 percent to $16.82 with 86,884,300 shares traded. Coca-Cola Co. rose .2 percent to $42.74 with 29,724,400 shares traded.

Doral Financial Corp. fell 24.1 percent to $5.04. Imprivata Inc. fell 11.3 percent to $13.76. Greenbrier Companies Inc. fell 10.2 percent to $65.91.
