Food Network's 'Unwrapped' begets 'Rewrapped,' which begats cherry pie eggroll, with sauce

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Consider the simple but beloved chocolate chip cookie. Now imagine that cookie encrusting a brioche roll tucked around a turkey meatball. Or turn your thoughts to a mass-produced cherry pie transformed into an eggroll with dipping sauce. Or the prospect of potato chip soup. Such is the culinary fallout from "Rewrapped," a new Food Network series that builds on the tradition of "Unwrapped," a longtime channel staple that also airs on the Cooking Channel.

BEIJING (AP) — A Chinese government trade union says it will mediate a labor dispute in which tens of thousands of workers have joined a massive strike against the world's largest shoemaker. More than 30,000 workers in the 10 plants run by Taiwanese-owned Yue Yuen Industrial (Holdings) Ltd. have staged work stoppages this week to demand the company make social security contributions as required by Chinese law and meet other demands.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Previously unreleased recordings of country music legend Hank Williams performing songs on a 1950 radio show will be released next month for download and on vinyl. The singer's daughter, Jett Williams, said in a written statement that no one knew these recordings existed. Williams' biographer, Colin Escott, wrote the liner notes for the album and said the recordings were used to augment live acts on local radio stations.

Report: No change for most kinds of food poisoning last year; salmonella cases drop

NEW YORK (AP) — The government's latest report card on food poisoning shows a dip in salmonella cases but an increase in illnesses from bacteria in raw shellfish. The report counts cases in only 10 states for some of the most common causes of foodborne illness, but is believed to be a good indicator of national food poisoning trends. Highlights from Thursday's report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
