WASHINGTON (AP) — A unanimous Supreme Court has ruled against a California woman who wanted to use American courts to sue the state-owned Austrian railway for grievous injuries she suffered while boarding a train in Innsbruck, Austria. The railroad company OBB-Personenverkehr AG appealed to the Supreme Court after federal appellate judges in San Francisco said the suit could proceed because Sachs purchased her train ticket from a Massachusetts-based Internet site.

Lawmakers take up government's ability to get old emails without a search warrant

WASHINGTON (AP) — Lawmakers are talking about requiring a search warrant for the government to obtain copies of a person's old emails. The bill, introduced by Republican Rep. Kevin Yoder of Kansas, is being discussed by the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. It seeks to close a loophole in a nearly 30-year-old law that allows the government to use subpoenas to third parties like Google or Yahoo to see emails more than 180 days old.

DETROIT (AP) — November used to be a slow month for U.S. car sales. Not anymore. General Motors' sales rose 1.5 percent over last November, while Fiat Chrysler's sales were up 3 percent. Nissan's sales rose 4 percent. Ford's sales were flat, with a 10-percent increase in F-Series pickup sales unable to overcome falling car sales.

Russian foreign ministry says Turkey's shooting of Russian plane puts strain on Syria talks

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey's downing of a Russian warplane near the Syrian border has put a strain on the peace talks for Syria as well as fraying previously warm bilateral ties, Russia's foreign ministry spokesman said Tuesday. Russia has claimed that Turkey shot down its plane to protect what President Vladimir Putin has described as Turkish profiteering from the oil trade with the Islamic State group. Russia has imposed sanctions against Turkish products.
