Flight attendants for American and US Airways reach post-merger contract deal with company

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A flight attendants' union says it has a tentative contract covering crews at American Airlines and US Airways. The union said Friday that negotiators reached an agreement with American Airlines Group Inc. with industry-leading terms. Those terms were not disclosed. The company is calling it another step toward combining the two airlines into one, which will keep the American name.

Space station shipment contains 3-D printer; SpaceX aiming for predawn launch Saturday

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — The 3-D printing boom is about to invade space. NASA is sending a 3-D printer to the International Space Station in hopes that astronauts will be able to one day fix their spacecraft by cranking out spare parts on the spot. The printer, made by a Northern California company called Made in Space, is among more than 5,000 pounds of space station cargo that's stuffed into a SpaceX Dragon capsule for a pre-dawn liftoff Saturday.

Caterpillar says dealers reported a 10 percent decline in heavy machinery sales in August

NEW YORK (AP) — Caterpillar said Friday that sales of its heavy machinery fell 10 percent in August on weaker results outside of North America. The company said machinery sales improved 8 percent in North America but fell in other regions. Caterpillar reported $13.39 billion in sales of machinery, energy and transportation equipment during the second quarter. That was down 4 percent from the year-ago quarter, and Caterpillar's total revenue fell 3 percent to $14.15 billion. Construction industry revenue rose 11 percent in the second quarter and resource industry and energy and transportation sales declined.
