Air Force investigating alleged 'treason' remark by general at key air combat command

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Air Force says it is investigating an allegation that a two-star general told lower-ranking officers that passing information to Congress about the capabilities of the A-10 attack aircraft is tantamount to treason. At a hearing Wednesday on defense budget issues, Sen. Kelly Ayotte, a New Hampshire Republican, condemned the reported comment and said all service members have a legal right to communicate with Congress.

Courting the middle class, Mitt Romney jabs Hillary Clinton on economics in Mississippi speech

WASHINGTON (AP) — Mitt Romney is renewing his pledge to fight for the poor and middle class in a speech that questions Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton's foreign policy and economic credentials. In his comeback bid, Romney has focused particular attention on the poor and middle class as he tries to broaden his appeal and shed his image of an out-of-touch millionaire, which plagued his last campaign.

Denver airport bans sales of pot-themed souvenirs after retailer asks to sell boxer shorts

DENVER (AP) — Tourists who fly to Colorado to try legal pot can forget about buying souvenir boxer shorts, socks or sandals with a marijuana leaf on them when passing through the Denver airport. The airport has banned pot-themed souvenirs, fearing the kitsch could taint the state's image. Marijuana possession and any pot-related advertising were already forbidden. Airport executives extended the ban this month after a retailer sought a free-standing kiosk to sell the boxer shorts and similar items that played off Colorado's place as the first state to allow recreational marijuana sales.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — The owner of a Pennsylvania amusement park is challenging a federal regulator's findings that it failed to protect summertime workers from extreme heat, including a teenager who was burned after collapsing near a deep fryer. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration proposed a $7,000 fine over failure to protect outdoor and concession stand workers from sunlight and other heat sources.
