Accused leader of Guatemala corruption ring turns himself in to authorities

GUATEMALA CITY (AP) — Juan Carlos Monzon Rojas, the alleged leader of a customs corruption scandal that has rocked the Guatemalan government, has turned himself into authorities, officials said Monday. Monzon Rojas, the personal secretary of former Vice President Roxana Baldetti, is accused by authorities of being the head of corruption ring known as "La Linea," in which businesses allegedly paid kickbacks to government officials in exchange for lower import duties. It is believed that the scheme bilked the government out of millions of dollars.

Police officer complains after "blacklivesmatter" written on Dunkin' Donuts coffee cup

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Providence police union is speaking out after an officer received a cup of coffee with "blacklivesmatter" written on it. The Fraternal Order of Police says the incident is "unacceptable and discouraging." The officer told the union that he received a cup of coffee Friday at a Dunkin' Donuts store with the slogan written on the cup. He says an employee was rude to him.

Overcrowding pushes up prices of annual passes at Disneyland and California Adventure

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Disney is raising prices for annual pass holders to its Disneyland and California Adventure parks. An anytime pass, which used to cost $779, now costs $1,049. That pass comes with free parking and unlimited downloads of park photos. Disney spokeswoman Suzi Brown told the Los Angeles Times a restricted version of the pass sells for $849 but has two weeks of blackout days, including the Christmas and New Year's holiday seasons, the park's most popular dates. The park says the move is meant to prevent overcrowding.

5th US Circuit hears appeal of ex-New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, serving 10-year sentence

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Lawyers for former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin asked a federal appeals court Monday to reverse his 2014 corruption convictions, arguing that a judge gave erroneous instructions to the jury that convicted him. Federal prosecutors scoffed at the argument. "We have a case chock full of bribes, official acts and concealment," Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Pickens told a three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
