Meritor beats 1Q earnings expectations, misses revenue forecasts

TROY, Mich. (AP) _ Meritor Inc. (MTOR) on Wednesday reported fiscal first-quarter earnings of $29 million. The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 29 cents per share. The auto parts supplier posted revenue of $879 million in the period, which did not meet Street forecasts. Analysts expected $910.7 million, according to Zacks.

Ex-Los Alamos scientist accused of offering to make Venezuela a nuclear weapon to be sentenced

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A former Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist who pleaded guilty to trying to help Venezuela develop a nuclear weapon is set to be sentenced. Pedro Mascheroni, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Argentina, faces up to 5½ years in prison and 10 years of supervised release when is sentenced by a federal judge in Albuquerque on Wednesday. His wife received a year and a day in prison for conspiring with her husband to sell nuclear secrets.

Greece's Tsipras says new govt won't stick to "crushing and unobtainable" budget surpluses

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greece's radical new government on Wednesday signaled the country would backtrack or scrap a series of budget measures its eurozone creditor nations had demanded in exchange for bailout loans. Left wing Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras described the country's bailout budget commitments as "crushing and unobtainable," while his finance minister called the bailout agreements a "toxic mistake."

Hudson City Bancorp posts 4Q profit of $39.1 million, result tops expectations

PARAMUS, N.J. (AP) _ Hudson City Bancorp Inc. (HCBK) on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $39.1 million. On a per-share basis, the Paramus, New Jersey-based company said it had profit of 8 cents. The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 5 cents per share.
