COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The state on Wednesday announced a second fine against the private vendor that took over the job of feeding inmates last year as the company defended its operations before a prisons oversight committee. "There were and there are remaining concerns," Gary Mohr, director of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, told members of the Correctional Institution Inspection Committee.

Government proposes rules for financial firms to prevent illicit use of anonymous companies

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. government is proposing new rules for banks and other financial firms aimed at preventing the use of anonymous companies to launder illicit profits. Under current rules financial firms are required to report suspicious transactions to authorities, to prevent the financial system from being used to launder proceeds from illegal activities or for financing terrorism.

___ A more vigorous US economy appears to be emerging WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. economy has rebounded with vigor from a grim start to 2014 and should show renewed strength into next year. That was the general view of analysts Wednesday after the government estimated that the economy grew at a fast 4 percent annual rate in the April-June quarter. Consumers, businesses and governments joined to fuel the second-quarter expansion. The government also said growth was more robust last year than it had previously estimated.

Boeing says final assembly of its 787-10 jetliner will take plane in South Carolina

NEW YORK (AP) — Boeing said final assembly of its 787-10 plane, a planned larger version of its "Dreamliner" aircraft, will take place in South Carolina. The 787-10 will be 18 feet longer than 787-9 aircraft, which in turn is 20 feet longer than the original 787-8. The smaller planes are assembled in both North Charleston and in Everett, Washington.
