Florida receives $300,000 as part of national settlement with Ohio-based pharmacy company

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi says the state is getting $300,000 as part of a national settlement with a Cincinnati-based company that allegedly engaged in a kickback scheme with skilled-nursing facilities. The settlement also resolves allegations that the company gave discounts to induce skilled nursing facilities to choose Omnicare as their pharmacy provider.

South America's elusive LulzSecPeru hackers embarrass politicians with dumped emails

LIMA, Peru (AP) — The Peruvian hackers have broken into military, police, and other sensitive government networks in Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Venezuela, defacing websites and extracting sensitive data to strut their programming prowess and make political points. Emails the hackers stole from the Peruvian Council of Ministers' network and dumped online last month fueled accusations that top Cabinet ministers have acted more like industry lobbyists than public servants. That helped precipitate a no-confidence vote last week that the Cabinet barely survived.

IMF says Ukraine could need billions in additional aid if fighting persists

BRUSSELS (AP) — While Ukraine's leaders are trying to win the war against Russian-backed separatists in the east, they appear to be losing the battle to resurrect the country's battered economy. If the fighting eases over the coming months, the country's economy would still be shrinking by a sharp 6.5 percent this year, with meager growth on the horizon next year, according to the IMF. Analysts, however, say the damage to Ukraine's economy is likely to be more severe.

Dominion, Duke propose huge new natural gas pipeline from West Virginia to North Carolina

NEW YORK (AP) — Dominion Resources, Duke Energy and other partners are proposing a $5 billion natural gas pipeline to connect the Southeast with the prodigious supplies of natural gas being produced in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. The 550-mile project, called the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, would begin in Harrison County, West Virginia and stretch through Virginia and North Carolina to Robeson County, near the South Carolina border. It's designed to tap the rapidly growing supplies of gas produced in two geologic formations, known as the Marcellus and Utica shales, that are now accounting for more than a quarter of the nation's natural gas. In the past, the Southeast has received nearly all of its gas from more traditional gas-producing states of Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma.
