RLJ buys Marriott hotel on Hawaii's Waikiki Beach

RLJ Lodging Trust said Tuesday that it has purchased the long-term leasehold interest in a Courtyard by Marriott hotel on Hawaii's Waikiki Beach for $75.3 million, adding a property in a popular tourist destination. The real estate investment trust said that the deal improves its geographic reach. RLJ said that visitor arrivals and spending in the area in 2012 exceeded pre-recession levels hit in 2006 and 2007, and anticipates growth in Asian tourists.

Oil climbs above $98 ahead of Fed policy news

The price of oil rose above $98 Tuesday as traders awaited the latest word on both the Federal Reserve's monetary policy and U.S. oil supplies. Benchmark oil for July delivery rose 67 cents to close at $98.44 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The focus in oil markets, as in others, was on the Fed, as policymakers began a two-day meeting.
