BEIJING (AP) — China's economic growth waned to 7.3 percent last quarter, the lowest rate since early 2009, resuming a slowdown that had been eased by mini-stimulus measures in the second quarter. Communist leaders are trying to steer China toward growth based on domestic consumption instead of trade and investment, but the slowdown raises fears of politically dangerous job losses.

NEW YORK (AP) — America has rejected the idea of cappuccino-flavored Lay's potato chips. In the U.S., bags of the four finalist flavors hit shelves in late July and people were able to vote on Facebook and Twitter for their favorites through this past weekend. It was the second year for the U.S. contest, which is designed to send customers to stores in search of the flavors. Last year's winner, Cheesy Garlic Bread, is still on shelves.

New Zealand government outlines agenda that includes surplus, flag vote, new terrorism rules

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — New Zealand's prime minister laid out a three-year government agenda Tuesday that includes returning the country's books to surplus, conducting a vote on whether to change the nation's flag, and tightening the rules on terrorist fighters. In accordance with New Zealand parliamentary tradition, Key's opening speech was delivered by the governor general, Sir Jerry Mateparae. Many of the policies had been previously announced.
