Senators call on safety agency to seek nationwide recall of air bags made by Takata Corp.

DETROIT (AP) — Two U.S. senators are calling on U.S. auto safety regulators to immediately issue a nationwide recall for cars with faulty air bags made by Takata Corp. The letter delivered Thursday also asks Foxx to encourage automakers to provide free loaner cars if parts aren't available. Air bag inflators made by Takata can rupture, causing metal fragments to fly out in a crash. Safety advocates say the problem has caused four deaths. So far automakers have recalled about 12 million vehicles worldwide due to the problem.

Moscow airport chief resigns, 4 more suspects detained in plane crash that killed Total CEO

MOSCOW (AP) — The general director of Moscow's Vnukovo Airport and his deputy resigned Thursday and Russian investigators detained four other airport employees following a plane crash that killed a top French oil executive and three crew members. Immediately following the crash, investigators detained the 60-year-old driver of the snowplow, Vladimir Martynenko, who they said had been drinking. His lawyer insisted, however, that his client does not drink because of a heart condition.

BEIJING (AP) — China may ban Facebook, but not its co-founder Mark Zuckerberg. The young billionaire delighted an audience of students at a prestigious Beijing university this week with a 30-minute chat in his recently learned Mandarin Chinese. "Speaking of China, I have a more difficult question for Mark, which I hope will not get me fired. What are Facebook's plans in China?" asked the forum facilitator and Facebook employee Wei Xiaoliang, to the laughter and applause from the audience.

Brazilian companies Safra and Cutrale again raise offer for Chiquita, to $681M

NEW YORK (AP) — Brazilian companies Cutrale and Safra are again raising their bid for banana producer Chiquita, to $681 million. ChiquitaFyffes would be the world's largest banana supplier, and the companies plan to incorporate in Dublin to take advantage of lower tax rates. Chiquita is now based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
