Recalls this week include battery packs and utility vehicle doors

A line of battery packs used to charge electronic devices are being recalled this week because they can overheat and cause a fire. Here's a more detailed look: BATTERY PACKS DETAILS: Goal Zero's Sherpa brand 50 and 120 rechargeable battery packs that are used to charge cellphones, tablets, laptops and other devices. The battery packs can be plugged into an A/C wall outlet, a 12 volt car charger or an attachable solar panel for recharging. The lithium ion iron phosphate battery packs are silver and black. Goal Zero and Sherpa 50 or 120 are printed on one side of the battery pack. The serial number is printed on the other side. Serial numbers that start with S/N 11002 or S/N 11102 are included in the recall. They were sold at REI and other sporting goods stores nationwide and online at Amaz

Oil price plunge a boon for crude-importing Asia, Europe but some negatives loom

A renewed plunge in oil prices is a worrying sign of weakness in the global economy that could shake governments dependent on oil revenues. Yet it is also a bonus for consumers as prices fall at the pump, giving individuals more spending money and lowering costs for many businesses. Partly because of the shale oil boom in the U.S., the world is awash in oil at a time when demand from major economies is weak — so prices are falling. Citibank analysts wrote in a report Thursday that global supplies exceed demand by about 700,000 barrels a day now.

US stocks end mostly lower, weighed down by tumbling oil prices

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are ending mostly lower as falling crude prices weigh on the market in a holiday-shortened session. The Standard & Poor's 500 index eased five points to close at 2,067 Friday. The Dow Jones industrial average rose less than a point to close at 17,828. The Nasdaq edged up four points to 4,791.

Former Disney chief Eisner says scoring an NFL team would be big win for downtown Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Michael Eisner likes a good game. He was chief executive at The Walt Disney Co. when it owned the Los Angeles Angels and founded the NHL's Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. A downtown stadium, he says, is about the city itself. Its identity. Its heart. Eisner, an unofficial, unpaid adviser to Mayor Eric Garcetti, has been working behind the scenes to bring pro football back to the center of the nation's second largest city.
